Applications are due no later than November 15, 2019. After applications are reviewed, we will begin visiting gardens.
The 2020 tour will take place on Saturday and Sunday April 4 & 5, 2020, 9:30am - 4:00pm.
New this coming year for the 2020 tour: California native gardens chosen for the garden tour will be open to the public for one day only either on Saturday or Sunday. This will allow visitors to view the gardens at a more relaxed pace and give garden owners a chance to see other gardens on the tour.
We prefer to group gardens located fairly close together. If you know of another native garden in your neighborhood, please encourage them to apply.
Garden Selection Criteria:
Planted with at least 70% California native plants that stand out in your landscape. Established mature native plants are preferred but we are flexible as people can often relate to a garden that is just a few years old.
Garden is free of non-native invasive species, i.e., fountain grass, ice plants, Mexican feather grass, invasive clovers, etc. See list of invasive plants to avoid at: http://dev.cal-ipc.org/solutions/prevention/landscaping/dpp/?region=socal
Garden is maintained with high standards.
Public gardens may be included on the 2020 tour so if you have information and contacts for a public garden, please let us know about that too.
Once gardens are selected, homeowners will receive an online questionnaire asking for garden details and special features to help us prepare for the garden tour. Thank you for applying!
