2011 Plant List
We'll have just about everything from native bulbs, seeds, books, and posters, to plants.
From Abies to Yucca; there will be over 150 different species totaling more than 3000 pots.
This is a good place to see California native plants close-up and learn more about them.

Talk to professional native plant gardeners about their care.

Read the informative signs with photographs of each plant in bloom, its natural habitat and range, and horticultural hints.

We have an excellent selection of handouts to take home and books and other items to purchase.
Plan to come early as some species sell out in minutes most plants are gone by noon.
Bring your little red wagons and boxes.

There is a loading zone on Village Place in front of the patio.
Follow these instructions

  1. Please use our excel spreadsheet, click on the following link 2011 pre-order.xls
  2. Save the document to your own computer and re-name with your last name.
  3. For plants that you want, fill in the amount under quantity.  There are formulas in the cells so you’ll see your total in the total column.  All prices include sales tax but are not guaranteed.
  4. Delete the plants that you don’t want by highlighting the entire row and then delete it.  OR, cut and paste the rows of cells you do want into a new spreadsheet.
  5. If there is a plant you’ve seen on the Tree of Life Nursery website, Las Pilitas website, the Recon Native plant website, or in a book somewhere, list the name of the plant by inserting a row at the bottom of the worksheet and we will do our best to order the plant for you.
  6. There is a comment column for you to add comments.
  7. Save the excel sheet to your computer and then e-mail it as an attachment to plantsale@cnpssd.org put “CNPS Pre-order” in the subject line and acknowledge that you understand there is no price or plant guarantee.
  8. If you don’t have excel, don’t know how to e-mail attachments, don’t know how to use computers, then you should show up at the sale at 10 am and shop ‘til you drop.  Please don’t e-mail me and tell me you don’t have excel, don’t know how to use it and don’t know how to e-mail attachments – find a friend or family member to help you or go to your public library…..
  9. Pre-ordering is open to CNPS members only, 20 item minimum or $100
  10. Orders must be picked up and paid for on sale day, Saturday October 15th by 1:00pm, no exceptions.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.  Your order is not guaranteed.  It is best if you come at 10am and pick up your order in case a plant wasn’t delivered you may be able to find a suitable alternative.
  11. We accept cash or checks or a credit card.
  12. Prices are subject to change due to taxes, plant availability, human error and/or inflation. Note that all listed prices include sales tax but prices may change.
  13. Most plants will be available in one gallon containers unless otherwise indicated.   If there is no price listed it is because we don’t know the price but we will let you know as soon as we know.
  14. Include your name, the name of the person picking up the plants if it will not be you, your e-mail address and a telephone # you can be reached at to remind you to pick up your plants in case you forget.  Plants that are not picked up by 1pm will be sold.
  15. You cannot pre-order any books, seeds or other items but you can certainly buy them on the sale day.  You can also buy more plants on sale day!
  16. On sale day, you will find your pre-order by the loading zone off of Village Place, basically on the lawn in front of the sale.  We recommend you bring a friend to help shuttle your car around because parking is limited at Balboa Park and you can only park in the loading zone while you are actively loading.  You’ll need to park your car in one of the lots, come to the sale, pay for your plants and then bring your car to the loading zone to load up, or schlep your plants back to your car.
  17. Volunteers will be available to help you load your car and answer any questions you may have about California native plants.
  18. After you have planted your plants you can recycle your empty pots and help raise money for native plants.  For details as to where to drop off for your empty pots for re-use, see our website www.cnpssd.org.  We have drop-off sites at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center in Oceanside, Las Pilitas in Escondido and Tecolote Nature Center in San Diego.

Thank you for helping us raise money for native plants! The plant sale list does not give details on individual plant requirements – use the plant profiles on our website Plant List, or www.treeoflifenursery.com and www.laspilitas.com also contain species specific info and planting instructions.

All proceeds benefit the San Diego Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS)
a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of native California flora.
