California Native Plants for North Park and South Park

Why Use Native California Plants?
Coastal sage scrub, chaparral - the original San Diego landscape evokes feelings of the dry and sunny wide-open Western skies, cooled by coastal breezes. Although some of this native landscape remains in local canyons and open space preserves, much of it was buried under houses and yards of the city. Using local native plants in our San Diego landscaping helps reestablish this “sense of place” and invites the local insects, birds, and animals into the garden where their company can be easily enjoyed.

By choosing native plants that are best suited for our local conditions, the gardener’s task of yard maintenance is eased. The right plants take minimal care to become established, minimal water and pruning to keep them looking good.
